Born on the Bundy River Station
in the region of Utopia, Barbara Weir’s mother is Minnie Pwerle, a
very well-known artist, and her father was an Irishman.
Consequently she was taken away from her family at the age of nine
and became part of the ‘stolen generation’.
In the 1960’s Barbara was
returned to Utopia with her children and stayed with her Aunt,
Emily Kame Kngwarreye who cared for her as a
child.
Barbara commenced painting with
acrylics on canvas in 1989 and developed a sophisticated and
contemporary painting style. In 1996 she traveled to Europe
with her exhibition of paintings
